This page features photos of campaigners and supporters across the U.S. and around the world calling for the closure of the prison at Guantánamo Bay in 2026 via posters marking every 100 days of Guantánamo’s existence (and the number of days on the anniversary of its opening), as posted on our Gitmo Clock website, which shows in real time how long Guantánamo has been open.
January 11, 2026 marked the shameful and unforgivable 24th anniversary of the opening of the prison, when it had been open for 8,767 days, February 13 marked 8,800 days, with further posters marking 8,900 days on May 24, 9,000 days on September 1 and 9,100 days on December 10, with January 11, 2027 marking 9,132 days.

Andy Worthington, Close Guantánamo's co-founder says, "Today marks 8,800 days since the shameful and disgraceful 'forever prison' at Guantánamo Bay opened, and while it may seem shocking to refer to it as a 'forever prison', that is, sadly, what is has become. I know there's no point in appealing to Donald Trump's better nature to do something positive, because he doesn't have one, but many of us haven't forgotten Guantánamo, or the 15 men still held, and will continue to work towards securing freedom or justice for them, and reminding the world what a legal, moral and ethical abomination this facility is, every day that it remains open."
